1 Please provide us with a brief bio of yourself.

I’m an entrepreneur and business mentor. I’ve been in e-commerce since 2002 and have built brands that have resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in sales over the years and have given thousands of jobs to people worldwide. Although I started with nothing, I worked my way to the top and became a self-made multi-millionaire with businesses that have done more than $300,000,000 in online sales. My focus has been to invest and consult for a variety of businesses in a wide range of industries and professional services. Some examples include fulfillment centers, real estate, shipping insurance, a world-class call center, private label manufacturing, and the fastest-growing online landscape design company in the world. One of my key passions is helping people to turn their entrepreneurial dreams into thriving businesses. That’s what motivated me to launch davidrivero.com in 2022. It’s a site that offers business mentoring, free education resources, and provides investment services for startups.

2 What is your role in the company?

I’m an investor and mentor who partners with innovators and helps startups get their funding. I provide a wide range of services and have more than 16 years of experience in navigating the start-up landscape.

3 Please tell us more about your organization.

I've learned to scale and grow business in many industries. I’m able to use every platform to promote my brands and services and share an entire suite of services to help E-commerce companies scale and grow like they never thought they could. These services include everything from manufacturing, to fulfillment, to creative marketing and beyond.

4 Describe the industry your organization is specialized in, as well as its main characteristics.

I’m particularly proud of my B2B services. Customer service can make or break an order, and we provide an award-winning, 24x7 call center with friendly and helpful Spanish, French, German, and English-speaking agents available for national and international customer service calls. The center uses the latest AI technology for superior support. We also offer a team of experienced affiliates to help businesses increase their publicity and effortlessly grow sales.

I’m delighted to achieve this level of recognition for being an entrepreneur and mentor. My team is very proud of how their work has contributed to this success.

6 How has winning an international award help promote your organization?

My businesses are global. Winning this award is an honor and it provides independent recognition of the value we deliver.

7 What are the challenges of developing / marketing your winning entry(ies)?

It was easy to develop the entry because I have a proven business model and track record of success. We plan to promote the award across multiple platforms. We appreciate this opportunity to generate more buzz with the objective of reaching our followers and others interested in our business services and free resources.

8 As a business owner, please tell us more about your ideation process.

Here’s my approach to generating ideas and determining if they’re worth pursuing. I usually do my personal brainstorming in my “downtime,” such as during weekends or at nights, when I’m not interrupted by the demands of my workday. When I have an idea of how to solve a problem, enhance a business offering or launch a new initiative, I do my homework and begin by conducting research. For example, I’ll go online, conduct searches on Google, and look at social media platforms. I’ll write down the steps, outline the process for this idea, and see if there are any holes. I’ll share this concept with a trusted colleague and get their feedback. Then, I’ll present this concept to my team, and we’ll review and refine the concept as we plan the next steps.

9 What is your own definition of a successful team / organization / business?

I think any successful team must be very passionate about their work and be fully committed to its success and meeting or exceeding their goals. They should focus on continuous improvement, never stop learning, and never be afraid to explore new ideas and ways to enhance their business or their model.

10 What led you / your organization to become successful within the industry you are currently in?

Many years ago I decided I wasn't satisfied with a 9-to-5 paying job. I decided it was time to build something for myself. I knew I had to start a business. I had to compromise and work in finance long enough to put money away for my first venture. It started with affiliate marketing. While I was working, I learned everything I possibly could about affiliate marketing and how to sell other brands' products and services for as little out of pocket as possible. That was the first step: self-education. I had a college degree in finance but wanted to learn more. I searched the internet for marketing gurus and learned by trial and error. I took free courses and became an expert on affiliate marketing before I even thought about selling anything. When I built my first campaign, I got a taste of real success by making a living as my boss. I’ve learned to scale and grow business in every industry. I've discovered how to use every platform to promote my brands and services. And I've learned to never stop focusing on how to improve.

11 How has the country, you are based in, helped move your industry forward?

We have many global team members and I’m also grateful that the country I’m based in, the United States, provides the opportunities, communications, reliable technology, and other resources to incentivize businesses and promote growth – especially for businesses that rely on services delivered remotely.

12 What have you found to be a hindering factor, for your business, during the entire course of the pandemic, and how did you overcome that hinderance?

The consulting business, davidrivero.com, was launched in 2022 and the rapid adoption of virtual meetings and remote work ultimately helped to enhance the growth of this business. However, some of my earlier investments required a major shift in strategy. Here are a few examples: When people couldn’t visit homes during the pandemic, we invested in satellite mapping and other technology to create high-quality 3D online designs for a landscape marketplace company, without ever having to visit a location to take measurements. We also provided other services virtually, including plant shipping. For our call center, we provided agents in certain areas with resources, enabling them to work remotely to provide exceptional customer service at a time when many other call centers in the industry didn’t have this capability.

13 What are the current trends in the business industry that you are most excited about?

I’m very excited about the power of AI to help improve productivity, reduce costs, and accelerate innovation. AI is helping me to really understand customer data and trends and how to apply this information to maximize the benefits. I estimate that recent advancements in AI have helped increase the value of data by about tenfold. This knowledge makes it so much easier to expand businesses globally very quickly. With AI, you can take business models that work well in one country and have the insight available to adapt those models internationally quickly and effectively.

15 Where do you see the evolution of the overall business industry in the next 5-10 years?

I think it’s going to weed out the weak businesses and the stronger ones will survive. Small businesses that don’t fully leverage the internet, AI technology, and media will fail, while ones that take advantage of technological advances will be more likely to thrive. For example, if you have a clothing company that has 3 employees and uses AI effectively, it has an economic advantage because you don’t have to sell as many items as you would with a small company that relies much more on its 20 employees but much less on technology. The company with 20 employees would need to sell more items to be profitable. If you don’t adapt to the new technologies, you’ll go out of business.

16 Who inspired you in your life, and why?

There’s not one single person who inspired me because I got my inspiration from a variety of people. My dad played a huge role in my work ethic. He was in the military and that gave him discipline. He never missed a day of work. My brother was my biggest cheerleader while I was growing up. He was selfless and wanted more for me than for himself. I was also inspired by Kobe Bryant because he always wanted to be the best in his field. He set standards of excellence.

17 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

I attribute my success to focusing on self-education, never giving up, keeping an open mind, being passionate about my work, listening to experts, and learning from mistakes. There’s an old saying that if you do what you love, the money will follow. That has been my mantra.
