This event was a breakfast during a site visit for potential clients (“FICP”), hotel executives, the DMO, and DMC partners, with the objective of convincing the FICP’s planners to bring their annual program to Puerto Rico in 2027.
Knowing that FICP would celebrate their 70th anniversary program in 2027, clearly indicated that the stakes were high, and an ordinary breakfast setting wouldn’t suffice. This is why Design Pop wanted to create an unexpected breakfast experience with the intention of connecting with these planners on an emotional level; using music, lighting, décor, and a thoughtful storyline that showcased partnership potential.
A creative decision to have the ballroom pitch black and focus on amber uplighting used signage such as “OUR JOURNEY STARTS HERE” as well as their event motif “I HAVE A DREAM”. Simultaneously, the inspirational song “A Million Dreams” (From the Greatest Showman) was playing through the PA system, while a “butterfly” stilt walker dramatically guided them through a 100ft pathway of Ficus trees and poster board messages inspired by Martin Luther King mixed with whimsical pop culture references.
As guests arrived at the tablescape, they began to discover numerous tableware details such as rare premium florals, custom vinyl-themed signage, prop books showcasing all the collaborators sponsoring this event, as well as ‘tongue in cheek” book titles such as “Event Lives Matter”, “Rise & Sign: It’s Breakfast Time!”, and a luxury special edition “FICP: The History of Annual Conferences: from Cleopatra to Trump; 69BC to 2024” (a humorous fictional backstory that represented the longevity of FICP’s association).
By the time the song finished, they had a guitar soloist continue with soft instrumentals throughout. Even after guests collected their food and sat down, the collective dialogue throughout continued about all the details they had just witnessed.
