In 2023, Farm to Plate Inc. launched their project "Farm To Plate Immutable Track and Trace for the Food Industry". Their revolutionary product is built on blockchain to enable immutable track and trace for the food industry's supply chain. Being a perishable product, the food industry's supply chain is exceptionally sensitive to disruption. However, information flows in the food industry are mostly manual and prone to error and fudging; the lack of reliable and immutable data management, real-time data and automated systems that can be retrofitted into remote production sites and distribution centers make the food supply chain one of the most wasteful management processes in the world. Untrustworthy data becomes a force multiplier for food recall exercises, which are initiated when there is a food-related disease, adulteration, or spoilage concern. Since it is difficult to pinpoint the exact source of infection or adulteration with traditional systems, these recalls can be massive – in 2022, recalls in the US alone amounted to 416.9 million units of food, with an average recall size of nearly 1 million units.

With precise tracking sourced automatically using IoT and QR codes, FTP enables precise, dynamic data for agencies to track food spoilage, reducing unnecessary food recalls by > 90% and food wastage by 10%. With these capabilities, FTP is an enabler for food ecosystem sustenance for entire nations. Farm to Plate Inc. has seen adoption by several national governments, such as the UAE and Dubai, that are struggling with food security.

FTP also enables financial and ecosystem sustainability at a grassroots level. Farm To Plate’s micropayments/microtipping and vernacular translation allow direct purchase. Third-world fishermen struggle with English, causing exclusion from supply-chain information channels. The vernacular module uses WhatsApp to inform farmers about current prices, producer stakeholders, and accurate demand and produce logistics information; and the micropayment module allows small farmers to sell directly to processors for far better returns and allows them to achieve financial sustainability. Real-time supply-demand data dissuades over-farming as farmers know how much they can sell, preserving food ecosystems by eliminating excessive soil degradation.
