Since 2016, DataBank has been funded and owned by private equity, raising over $7B and expanding rapidly from 20 data centers in 3 markets to 65+ data centers in 27+ metros.
In late 2024, DataBank’s leadership team decided to initiate an employee-ownership program, giving every employee a stake in the company’s performance. With the support of its investors, and OwnershipWorks.org, DataBank set aside a portion of the management equity pool and designed the “Extreme Ownership Program (EOP)” which made all ~1,000 full-time employees part-owners of the company.
Upon a future qualifying transaction involving the management equity pool (acquisition, recapitalization, IPO, etc.) the program will trigger a one-time bonus of up to 12-months compensation in addition to an employee’s regular salary and benefits. The exact amount of the payouts will depend on overall company performance and pool value in a transaction.
In June 2025, the program was rolled out in a surprise company-wide event that took place across all locations. Every employee received an ownership welcome kit with program-branded merchandise and a solid brass commemorative coin signifying their ownership stake in the company.
