After walking onto a Division I football team at Baylor University, Joseph DeWoody earned a scholarship and Academic All-Conference Honors, as the starting center and 2004 Baylor Offensive Lineman of the Year. DeWoody graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Entrepreneurship and Real Estate prior to receiving his M.B.A. Following a successful Baylor career, Joseph DeWoody knew he wanted to return home to Fort Worth to start his own company and give back to the community he grew up in.
At the age of 28, DeWoody founded Clear Fork Royalty which became one of the leading oil and gas mineral and royalty buyers in the United States. After years in the business, DeWoody saw an opportunity to build an energy-focused oil and gas accounting firm and create a one-of-a-kind proprietary software, mineral.tech®, to fill a niche that was not being served to its fullest by any other market participant. His vision was to establish a new company that uniquely integrates full-service accounting with land expertise and software solutions to help clients make the most informed decisions about their mineral assets.
In 2018, DeWoody utilized his background as a manager for investment partnerships, assembled a team of seasoned industry professionals and saw his vision through, creating what is known today as Valor. Valor is a Fort Worth-based, specialty asset management services provider that serves mineral rights owners, and oil and gas operators and investors. Since its inception, DeWoody has led the company on a path of expansion growing its total number of clients to-date by over 85%, while doubling both revenue and employee count year-over-year. He’s also helped grow Valor’s service offerings in 2022 to fulfill a need identified amongst operators and investors for operator outsourcing services.
As an entrepreneur, DeWoody has been recognized by many prestigious organizations including Dallas Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in Energy”, Oil and Gas Magazine’s “20 Under 40 E&P Executives”, Fort Worth Business Press’ “40 Under 40”, Texas Monthly’s “Texas’ Top Producer – Best Landman in Texas”, D CEO’s “Energy Services and Technology Executive of the Year”, Inspiring Workplace’s “Inspiring Leaders”.
