In the midst of the pandemic, Rebecca and her mother - Dr. Helen Egger, child psychiatrist & scientist - launched Little Otter. Little Otter is the nation's first fully digital, results-driven tele-health company focused on providing evidence-based mental health care for children between 0-14 years old and their entire families. Little Otter was designed by world experts in childhood mental health and is delivered virtually through their state-of-the-art platform to the comfort of your home.
Born out of their previous experiences as a family and as professionals, they wanted to build a care model that would guarantee better results and prevent harm. Rebecca recalls how her little brother came down with a rare autoimmune brain disorder, and despite her mother’s 30+ years of experience and prestige as a tenured faculty member at a major medical center, she felt that the mental health systems weren’t putting the family at the center of their care and dismissed Dr. Egger as a professional and mother. Little Otter and its family-first approach, they believe, is the antithesis of that.
Dr. Helen is the co-founder and Chief Medical/Scientific Officer of Little Otter, and a pioneer in the field of child psychiatry. Having spent 30 years of work as a leader in childhood mental health, Dr. Helen is a world-renowned expert in early childhood mental health and digital pediatric mental health research, while developing the gold-standard assessment for mental health challenges in children between 2-6 years old, The Preschool Age Psychiatric Assessment (PAPA).
Rebecca Egger is CEO and co-founder of Little Otter. She has more than 10 years of experience working in medical technology, specializing in product design. Rebecca is all too familiar with the idea of being a “disruptor” in the tech-start-up arena, but she has the expertise to know that with something so precious as early childhood mental health, we cannot blow it up and then try to put it back together, nor can we just put traditional therapy into the cloud.
