My name is Melissa Kehl and I am the owner and President of Rieke Office Interiors (ROI). I am a CPA and I entered ROI 22 years ago as CFO for the company. Because of my accounting background, I was able to gain a thorough and extensive knowledge of every aspect of the business as seen through a financial lens. I believe in the “Go Giver Principles” in business and enjoy mentoring other managers and owners, whether helping them with their office environments or just lending an ear and advice on many aspects of their business.

Rieke Office Interiors (ROI) is a multi-million dollar business that has been designing and manufacturing custom office furniture for over 25 years. Our experienced commercial furniture team is here to help create the office of your dreams, crafting an innovative, eco-friendly workspace to fit your needs. We also have an array of used office furniture, making it easier to start designing a new office today. In 1992, Todd Rieke formed Rieke Office Interiors. His business started small with only three employees focused on buying and selling used furniture. ROI gradually transitioned to designing and manufacturing the Midwest’s most inspired offices.
We are excited that TITAN honored us with this award! Our mission with our SafeSpaceTM PPE Line was to put our creative minds together to create an innovation to help our business but, most importantly, to give other businesses around this country tools to keep their doors open during the pandemic.
Our management philosophy is about building the right company culture where everyone on our team is in a position that best leverages their personality strengths and skillsets so that they will be most fulfilled and successful. We embrace the differences in our personalities recognizing the strengths and weaknesses and understanding how to leverage those strengths for maximum team success. We also are strict in following our core values of “Teamwork + 3Rs” (Respectful, Responsive, Reliable) and hold each other accountable to follow these core values. We encourage and embrace “out of the box” thinking as we know there is always a solution. Some innovative and creative strategies we use to improve and grow our business include these: • We created “X-Force” a cross-departmental team of employees who are tasked with addressing any continuous improvement opportunity for the company. This team has tackled over twenty issues per year resulting in improved business performance and employee satisfaction. • During 2020 we had a company-wide brainstorming session that led to the company launching VID Lifestyle in February 2021, a full-service residential design offering that complements our commercial business and has exceeded expectations during the first 4 months. • We utilize Culture Index to assist us in filling every open position to ensure a good personality skillset match, in addition to interviewing for the core values of Teamwork, Respect, Responsiveness, and Reliability. • We are in the process of developing our facility and into a state-of-the-art “Lifestyle Inspiration Center” that will be like no other in the Chicagoland suburbs. This will include our design studio and our member event center. We will have a strong brand and membership club of customers that will enjoy spending time together at the Lifestyle Inspiration Center. Charitable endeavors, educational lifestyle seminars, travel & entertainment outings, and other lifestyle fulfillment opportunities will be established. Our goal is for these people to experience life to the fullest.
One of the things that I'm proud of is how ROI innovated during the global COVID-‐19 pandemic. As businesses shut down and employees were forced to work from home, Melissa knew her office furniture company needed to change quickly in order to survive the changing economy. Looking to the future, she predicted acrylic (plexiglass) shields that were being used in retail applications, would also benefit corporate offices. And, within one week our design team, engineers, CNC operators, and installers had created an entirely new product line. This pivot not only helped ROI but companies around America safely re-‐open. Additionally, even our competitors in the market are coming to us for these products and selling them to their clients too.
My strategic vision is “to deliver the ultimate lifestyle experience” by building our clients as people, building their spaces, building their furniture, and building their experiences. We continue developing and polishing our group of companies with this goal in mind (ROI, VID, VID Lifestyle, ROI Edge). We are developing a unique “Lifestyle” community for successful individuals which will allow people to fulfill and achieve their ultimate lifestyle dreams, provide a one-of-a-kind desired community that will offer them and their families new and exciting opportunities for exceptional life experiences, and fully integrate their personalized culture into their work and living spaces.
