With over a decade of experience in NoC technology, cache coherency, and SoC automation, Nishant has played a pivotal role in advancing the field. He began his career at NetSpeed Systems, where he was instrumental in developing software infrastructure for algorithmic NoC construction and cache coherency. Following NetSpeed’s successful acquisition by Intel, he became the Software Lead for Configurable Fabrics at Intel, further refining his expertise in NoC design, machine learning-driven SoC automation, and high-performance computing architectures to contribute to development of cutting-edge technology.

Nishant has been instrumental in the adoption of AI in SoC design to modernize chip development practices. His contributions to NoC design and SoC automation have led to 13 granted patents, with additional applications pending. His research and thought leadership in the field are also reflected in two published papers, underscoring his impact on the semiconductor industry.

Nishant holds an MS in Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech and a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering from VJTI, Mumbai. Nishant Rao is a seasoned technology leader with extensive expertise in software development, network-on-chip (NoC) design, and system-on-chip (SoC) integration. As the Vice President of Software Engineering at Baya Systems, he leads the global development, verification, and deployment of the WeaverPro Software Platform, driving innovation in chiplet-based architectures and next-generation semiconductor design.
With over a decade of experience in NoC technology, cache coherency, and SoC automation, Nishant has played a pivotal role in advancing the field. The semiconductor industry is shifting toward chiplet-based designs to overcome the limitations of monolithic chips, including manufacturing yield, scalability, and cost inefficiencies. Chiplets allow modular components to be integrated into a single package, enabling higher performance, flexibility, and faster time-to-market. However, achieving seamless collaboration between companies designing, manufacturing, and integrating these chiplets requires a robust ecosystem. This ecosystem must support interoperability, standardization, and streamlined design and verification processes.
Baya Systems plays a critical role in building this ecosystem by developing software that enable the products of different chiplet vendors to work together. As Vice President of Software Engineering at Baya Systems, Nishant leads the mission of driving the development of solutions for the chiplet ecosystem.
At Baya, his responsibilities include:
Defining the Roadmap
•	Partner with industry stakeholders, including standards organizations and ecosystem partners, to identify critical pain points in the adoption of chiplets.
•	Design a comprehensive software roadmap focusing on solutions like design exchange platforms, design rule compliance tools, and multi-vendor integration frameworks.

Building and Leading the Team
•	Establish agile processes to ensure timely delivery of software features and fostered an innovation-driven culture within the software organization.
•	Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members spread across the globe and help in aligning their efforts with the strategic goals of the company chiplet ecosystem.

Stakeholder and Ecosystem Engagement
•	Present to the company’s Board of Directors and Investors, demonstrating progress, articulating the value of our solutions, and securing resources for sustained innovation.
•	Collaborate with partners and customers to integrate feedback into product offerings, ensuring alignment with real-world requirements.

Under his leadership, Baya Systems has raised over $40 million to further the chiplet ecosystem and provide cutting edge technology. He has delivered software solutions that are transforming the ecosystem by enabling seamless collaboration across companies. These innovations have streamlined the design processes and accelerated time-to-market for systems. Nishant’s efforts in aligning stakeholders, building a world-class software and IP organization, and fostering partnerships have positioned Baya Systems as a critical enabler in the widespread adoption of chiplets, driving both organizational success and industry progress.

Question 3 : Provide examples of the strategies / plans you have introduced, in order to attain your nominated organizational, departmental, team, or individual achievements. Explain why the highlighted achievements are significant / unique.

Software Transformation at Intel:
At Intel, Nishant was instrumental in driving a transformation of the SoC development methodology to leverage the power of software. He leveraged his expertise in building tools and automation for configurable IP (intellectual property) to build several automation platforms for the development of about 15+ IPs needed for the server program at Intel. This reduced the turn-around time between changes from 2-3 months to 1-2 days enabling faster time-to-market.

Technical Program Committee Member at Industry Conferences
Leveraging his expertise in networks-on-chip (NoC) and software platforms, Nishant has participated on the Technical Program Committee for the IEEE NOCS 2023 conference and the Design Automation Conference (DAC) 2025. These roles demanded a balance of technical depth, strategic vision, and collaborative decision-making. The objective was to uphold the conference’s reputation by evaluating submissions for their academic rigor and innovation. He has utilized a systematic evaluation framework that focused on scalability, performance efficiency, and innovation in NoCs and engaged with the broader program committee to provide actionable feedback, enhancing the overall quality of submissions.

Patent Approval Committee Member
Nishant has been/is a member of patent submission approval committees at NetSpeed Systems, Intel and Baya Systems. In the patent committees, his responsibility is to assess intellectual property proposals for technical merit and strategic fit, ensuring a strong pipeline of patents for the organizations. He has worked to streamline the evaluation process, guaranteeing each application was robustly reviewed for uniqueness, market potential, and alignment with organizational priorities. These efforts have resulted in the submission of over 100 patent applications, with over 50 approved, and none rejected thus far. This impeccable record underscores his ability to identify and advance high-value innovations, reinforcing the technical leadership of Intel and Baya Systems.

Training and mentorship of global teams:
In his roles at Intel and Baya Systems, Nishant has built and led global organizations to deliver cutting edge solutions. The new teams he helped build out and train have now become fully self-sufficient with several Principal and Sr Principal Engineers among them and are responsible for large parts of Intel’s fabric development roadmap.
